A pilot project aimed at helping new investors into the property market is proving a great success in Toowoomba. 

Ray White New Projects was launched in the city in September, with a team of three, guiding investors through the entire process of finding a suitable investment property and then growing the property and their portfolio. 

Investment consultant Simon Newman said the New Projects concept turned the investment process upside down.

"Most people start at the property and work back from there" he said.

"We start with a more strategic outlook, looking at the client's property investment objectives - then we look for the property which will provide the best investment medium to apply those objectives."

The service is provided free, with the aim being to achieve repeat business from clients.

Investing specialist Craig Whaley has been established in the business for the last 15 years in Townsville, and has recently joined forces with Ray White Toowoomba Range Principal Tony Franke to establish the Toowoomba office.

Mr. Whaley, who started investing at the age of 19, established a unique service in that he provided a "one-stop shop" for property investors, including finance brokering and ongoing support to the investor.  Aside from Mr. Newman, New Projects also has two on-staff mortgage brokers, Peter Herbert and Michael Verwey.

Mr. Newman formerly worked in the aviation industry but decided to move to Ray White New Projects after successfully building his own property portfolio with Mr. Whaley's assistance.

"I have seen firsthand the importance that Craig and his team place on education, technical knowledge and superior client service." he said.

A large part of his role occurs behind the scenes and consist of research into property markets.

He believes Toowoomba offers great investment opportunities because of its proximity to the south-east corner and the low median house price in relation to population.  Ray White New Projects introduces potential clients to the process at free investment seminars which are being run monthly in Toowoomba.

Mr. Newman said the  first three seminars attracted about 150 people, with the next seminar planned for January 29.
