Cairns situated approx 1701km from Queensland’s capital Brisbane is driven by a very strong and diverse economy along with its close proximity to the Great Barrier Reef.

Located in the Northern part of Queensland it boasts excellent links to the Asian pacific regions having established strong business relationships. The region offers excellent investment and growth opportunities in agriculture, manufacturing, aviation marine and tourism.

The Cairns economy heavily reliant on the Tourism industry, is in the top 10 most visited places in Australia attracting local tourists as well as many visiting from overseas destinations wanting to explore the many popular sites so close to the Great Barrier Reef and the wet tropical rainforests.

CairnsCurrently on average almost 2 million tourists visit the region every year. The population of the region is in excess of 135,000 people which is rapidly expanding with the major developments taking place including residential, industrial and commercial.

Cairns region is highly regarded internationally as a place to visit. Within close reach (less than 1 hour by boat) to the Great Barrier Reef and beautiful beaches surrounding, along with the pristine rainforests and close proximity to the Atherton tablelands it caters for all types of visitors.

The city has natural surroundings to take advantage of with many nature parks, theme parks and rainforests which are worth the time to explore. The northern parts of the area have some of the most beautiful beach settings situated less than 1 hours drive to Port Douglas.

The major industries within the Cairns region are tourism and sugar production. A lot of land mass surrounding the Cairns region is still used for the farming of sugar cane. The industry is coming under increasing pressure as Cairns rapid expansion is taking place with new developments slowly but surely taking over these areas.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Cairns is a Far North Queensland Region major transport hub situated at the base of the Cape York Peninsula, providing transport links between the Peninsula and the Gulf Of Carpentaria and other areas to the south of the state.

The Cairns International Airport a major link to for the tourism industry with many domestic routes from interstate destinations and links to overseas locations, is the 6th busiest domestic airport and the 5th busiest international airport in Australia.

It also has rail facilities which link Cairns to the south to Brisbane through Queensland Rail catering for passenger and freight services, and boasts a unique scenic railway which runs between Cairns and Kuranda.

CairnsThe Sea Port in Cairns is located in the Northern Beaches area at Trinity Inlet, and plays an important part in the tourism and export industries. Local tourist operators base themselves here providing daily reef tours. Cargo exported from the region includes petroleum, sugar, molasses, fertiliser and LPG gas. Also a great number of commercial fishing trawlers use the port.

Health and Education is well serviced in the region. Cairns has 2 Hospitals - Cairns Base Hospital and the smaller Cairns Private Hospital located within close proximity to the city region. Education is widely catered for with many public and private schools as well as a TAFE college. James Cook University a vibrant, multi-campus university with main sites in the tropical Queensland cities of Townsville and Cairns, is Australia's leading tropical research university with modern campuses in Brisbane and Singapore and smaller sites in Mackay, Mt Isa and Thursday Island.

Cairns is home to the Cairns Taipans which is part of the National Basketball League for Men. It also has many other locally based sporting competitions running on an ongoing basis including Rugby League, Tennis, Basketball, Australian Rules Football, Rugby Union, Soccer and many more.

Cairns has some exciting new residential property development projects underway in the northern and southern regions, with strong demand across all sectors, experiencing very even growth. To the North of Cairns North Point Estate, Canopy’s Edge Estate, Smithfield Village Estate and Bluewater Estate are major residential subdivisions. In the southern areas Sugarworld Estate, Silkwood Ridge Estate, The Avenues and Riverstone Hills attract investors and owner occupiers alike.

CLIMATE

The region experiences a warm tropical climate with a wet season running between December and April with a dry season running between May and November. Although there is a dry season it is not completely dry, Cairns experiences periods of rain in this time. Rainfall is very high during the wet season along with humidity. Average temperatures for the area range from 25 degrees in July to 31 degrees C in January.
